Hard as it is to believe, July is nearly at an end. Many families have taken their summer vacation and are starting to focus on the upcoming school year. Other families are still planning one last summer blast.
If you and your family will be in town this week, here are some of the happenings you may want to add to your calendar.
The Hillcats are back in town this week and will be playing at Lynchburg City Stadium on Monday-Thursday nights. All games are at 7:05 p.m. There are special promotions each night. For the full Hillcats schedule, visit their website.
Monday is Dollar Menu Night with a lot of food choices only a dollar each. Tuesday is Half Price Tuesday with tickets selling for $4 each. Tuesday is also dollar drink night and UVA Night so wear your UVA colors.
Wednesday is Win-Win Wednesday. All who purchase a ticket for Wednesday’s game will receive a free ticket for the next Wednesday home game. Wednesday is also Virginia Tech Night so wear your Hokie colors and you’ll get in for half price.
Thursday is Credit Union Night. If you’re a member of a credit union, check to see if they are giving away tickets. Thursday is also Christmas in July at the stadium. Santa will be visiting and the first 1,000 fans will receive a Southpaw Santa bobblehead.
City Stadium isn’t the only place Santa will visit this week. On Wednesday, Santa will visit Mister Goodies on Timberlake Road. There will be Christmas music and Christmas themed desserts. If you wear anything Christmas related, you will receive a free small ice cream cone or shaved ice from 6-9 p.m.
This is the last full week of the summer reading program at Lynchburg Public Library. If your kids haven’t been doing their reading, start now to finish in time for the ice cream sundae party for all who have read 15 books by August 1.
If you haven’t yet visited the library for the summer activities, add them to your schedule this week. All of the activities listed are free to the public.
This week’s Monday movies are Cars 2 at 10:30 a.m. and The Adventures of Tintin at 1 p.m. with free admission for both movies.
On Wednesday, the library offers Wednesday Wonders for kids of all ages from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2-4 p.m. This is a drop in program with different themes each week. Allow about 45 minutes.
Thursday’s program at the library is Thursday Thrills for kids ages 8-12. The program starts at 1 p.m. and has a different theme each week.
Friday mornings, the library holds Born to Read Storytime for infants and toddlers to age 23 months. This is a lap program for parents or caregivers and children.
Summer Movie Clubhouse will continue this week at Cinemark Movies 10 with Puss in Boots showing on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. Admission is only $1 per person.
