A man allegedly swiped mail from the outgoing postal box at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex and the residents are asking for the public’s help to catch the thief.
There also could be a cash reward for the person who can deliver the suspect’s identity to police.
On Monday, Atlanta police were notified that the post boxes at the Shamrock Garden Apartments had been broken into and mail stolen, spokesman Officer John Chafee said.
“Surveillance video of the incident shows the suspect break into the boxes, take mail from them and then sit on a nearby bench and sort through the mail before leaving,” Officer Chafee said.
At least one resident at the complex on Plaza Road is missing a money order that was supposed to pay a debt, according to a media report.
Atlanta police are investigating the crime, but they are looking to the public for help in identifying to the mail thief, Officer Chafee said.
In addition to a $2,500 reward being offered by Crime Stoppers Atlanta, the owner of the complex, Mr. Brent Sobol, has added $500 to bring the pot to $3,000 for information leading to the thief’s conviction.
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact investigators at (404) 472-3351 or Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-8477. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous.
