Internet sensations Megan & Liz Mace are steadily rising to the top of the mainstream music scene with the release of their latest single, “Bad For Me,” which hit iTunes at midnight.
The Michigan-born fraternal twins have been making a name for themselves, establishing themselves as artists and building their career, all while accruing a solid group of loyal and devoted fans, better known as Macer’s, over the course of the past five years. They began their musical journey by uploading videos onto YouTube, with their first upload being an original titled “This Note.” Now, the 19-year-old’s are doing much more than recording in front of a webcam. The twins are set to perform at the sold out iHeart Radio music festival in Las Vegas, after winning the Macy’s iHeart Radio Rising Star contest.
For those of you who live under a rock, the iHeart Radio Music Festival is a two day event in which some of the biggest names in music come together to perform. It’s fitting that Megan & Liz won the Rising Star contest, as they have amassed more than 160 million views and more than 715,000 subscribers on their YouTube channel. In fact, according to Ryan Seacrest’s website, their channel is the 30th most subscribed music channel on YouTube.
The opportunity to open at such a highly-publicized event is already something not everyone can brag about. But along with opening the iHeart Radio Music Festival comes with opening for some of the biggest artists today: Bon Jovi, Rihanna, Coldplay, Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley and Taylor Swift, just to name a few. It has been one of Megan & Liz’s bucket list goals to open for Taylor Swift, and their dream will come true when the two take the same stage as fellow singer-songwriting at the festival.
At the beginning of this year, Megan & Liz vowed to make 2012 their year, and what a year it’s been for them thus far. But the year isn’t over yet! As aforementioned, they just released their latest single, “Bad For Me,” which has already been featured on several radio stations, including Florida’s Y100’s Download or Delete segment. It is also currently on Ryan Seacrest’s homepage.
As reported by Clever TV, the twins collaborated with Boys Like Girls frontman Martin Johnson and Rob Hawkins. The track was produced by Johnson, with mixing by Joe Zook and was directed by Paula Walker.
“Everybody has that one person who they know they shouldn’t like but they do,” said Megan & Liz. “We’ve been there and we know you have too, so this song is for you! We had a blast writing it and its our favorite song we’ve written so far.”
The song will be featured in a national campaign for Macy’s mstyletab clothing collection, which will air from now until September 7th and will also star the twins. The commercial is playing on major television networks and is anticipated to give the song, as well as the twins, major exposure.
Megan & Liz recently headlined a free concert at B.B. King’s Blues Club in New York City, performing with other talents for a good cause: bullying. Band Against Bullying featured performances by Bean, Tim Halperin, Kicking Daisies and Hot Chelle Rae. Their song “Are You Happy Now” was the driving force behind the idea of Band Against Bullying. I was lucky to get the chance to attend this event. Concert goers, including myself, took a pledge to Band Against Bullying and watched as all of the acts took the same pledge.
Aside from their latest single, their upcoming iHeart Radio Festival performance, and the Band Against Bullying concert, the girls also have their own Ring Pop flavor out in stores now. Look wherever Ring Pops are sold for a Raspberry Lemonade flavored limited time offer Ring Pop. And if all of the above is not enough for them to win your hearts over, their debut album is set to be released early this fall. Like I said, 2012 is definitely Megan & Liz’s year.
Summer, a resident of New Jersey and long-time fan of Megan and Liz says:
“Watching Megan and Liz grow throughout the years has been absolutely incredible. Three years ago, I was watching their webcam covers on YouTube and now I’m watching them headline a show in New York. They are so inspirational and prove that big dreams can come true.”
There is nothing that warms my heart more than a success story. It’s humbling to see deserving and talented people reach a level of success and accomplishment they deserve. I know this is just the beginning for Megan & Liz, and I can’t think of two girls who deserve it more than they do. Keep your eye out for them, they are going to take over the world. If you’re not a fan yet, trust me, you will be.
As of 2 a.m, only two hours after the iTunes release of ‘Bad For Me,’ the single has reached 95 on the iTunes Top Pop Songs Chart.
