I needed a good, solid lean gainer for my powerlifting routines in order to gain some weight and keep up with my nutritional needs. Before I started on this I weighed 132 at the lowest (I’m 5’7″ and had just gotten off of a cycle of OxyElite + cutting routine), needless to say I was ready to get back up around 150. I’ve gone through three containers of this product and I’m happy to say I’m close to hitting 160 with a great increase in strength and very little fat gain (I’m at about 10% body fat). I didn’t do the suggested two servings per day since I cannot afford to spend that much money on a weight gainer. In terms of nutrition, I think MHP has put a lot of effort into their product. Here are just a couple things I thought were interesting:
The carb blend- Oats? Barley? Heck yeah, sounds good to me. It’s so refreshing to see a weight gainer that isn’t just a ton of maltodextrin and ‘sucrose polymers’.
Protein- MHP uses the Probolic blend of protein in this which I really like. At first I was a somewhat puzzled as to why they put in soy protein. After a little research I found out that some studies showed that GH and IGF-1 levels could be improved with soy protein, plus if you’re the type to stack a weight gainer with a test booster or PH, you’ll need something that’ll act as an anti-aromatase (anti-estrogen agent), which soy has also been shown to do in some cases. Probolic is also a protein blend (like there always should be in a gainer) which extends protein synthesis and helps one build more muscle.
Fats- No cheap saturated fats here. The lipids included in Up Your Mass come from MCT-chain fatty acids, Safflower Oil, Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), Borage Seed Oil, Flax, and an Omega-3 blend. I can safely say that I have never seen a better blend of good, healthy fats in a single product.
In terms of mixability, it’s surprisingly easy. The powder is micronized and therefore very wispy so make sure to put a hand up to rim of the shaker cup so none of the powder is lost. I also noted that I didn’t get any clumping either, and the taste is superb: not overly sweet and one can actually taste oats and wheat. Some might not enjoy that, but some reduced sugar chocolate syrup will remedy that. Since my first try using this product I have tasted the Fudge Brownie, Vanilla, and Cinnabun flavors, and I can safely say they all taste fantastic and are easy on the stomach. Overall this is a superb gainer that is creatine free so you can use Con-Cret, kre-alkalyn or add whatever you see fit in conjunction.
