The Division (D) II Naples Hammerhead Rugby Football Club (RFC), which won the State of Florida and the USA Rugby South Championships for the 2011-2012 Season, released its preliminary schedule for the 2012-2013 Rugby Season this week. Due to some changes and implementations put into place by the Florida Rugby Union (FRU) during the summer Fifteens break, this season itself will run and be organized a bit differently than in years past.
According to Club President Keith Hopkins, The Hammerheads have two big events taking place this fall as well that will break the typical Rugby Season monotony: A Rugby Cruise to the Bahamas in October and hosting the USA Rugby Women’s Championship in November. This article will provide all of the schedule information through the end of 2012.
How Florida D II teams are broken up by the FRU for the 2012-2013 Season
There will be a total of ten teams in the Division II FRU, with five teams in the north and five teams in the south. The North Division will consist of N1 Daytona RFC, N2 Jacksonville RFC, N3 (Tampa Bay) Krewe RFC, N4 Orlando RFC, and N5 (St Petersburg) Pelicans RFC.
The South Division includes S1 Boca RFC, S2 Fort Lauderdale RFC, S3 Miami RFC, S4 Naples RFC, and S5 (Miami) Tridents RFC. This will be important when “Crossover Games” begin in early 2013, where teams from the FRU North will compete against clubs from the FRU South. This will be important when the “Crossover Game” segment of the seasons, which involves action between teams from the North Division and South Division, begins in February.
Hammerhead RFC traveling much of the month of October
The Hammerheads will begin their season by traveling to the Bahamas on 13-14 October as the club plays five of the Bahamas’ best Rugby teams in Nassau. The club is asking anyone that is wishing to make the trip to the Bahamas have the trip booked by 09-10 October. For further information, please click in this link.
