“Necessary Roughness” aired its mid-season finale Wednesday night on USA Network, channel 16 in Queens, with “All the King’s Horses,” which saw the aftermath of TK’s crash, someone die, and the possibility of two new couples.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall TK’s pill-popping on “Necessary Roughness” nearly led to him killing a young girl, but fortunately he veered off in time. When Nico brought him home, he faced an intervention and had no choice but to go to rehab and miss the first game of the season. Dani left him at rehab, where he ran into Jimmy, who was too “amped” he didn’t remember their last run-in. Jimmy advised him to work in the stables.
Jimmy gave his sob story in group therapy before later telling TK to give them what they wanted (apologies and tears) if he wanted out. When TK did, Arvin didn’t buy it and let slip what happened to Marshall (more about that below). TK decided he needed to be on the field, and Jimmy told him he knew a way out. Dani then got a call and reported to Nico, “TK has escaped rehab. On a horse.” When they showed up drunk at the Hawks offices, Nico had them escorted out. The team needed TK in rehab, not on the field. Though TK tried to go to Dani’s to talk about it, she told him to go back to rehab and refused to let him in.
TK turned off the first game as he watched his replacement, and Jimmy just brought up more fun for him. However, later, TK found him on the bathroom floor, not moving, and he tried CPR and called 911. Then he began crying for real. He returned to rehab, and Dani told him he did everything he could for Jimmy. He had to do this for himself.
Losing friends Nico and Dani were waiting for Marshall’s arrival since he had the tapes and in the meantime, she had suspended her practice. That also meant she had to talk to Darryl at the IRS about a monthly payment reduction, only to later return and find it was paid off completely—by Marshall.
Soon after that, she found out Marshall’s plane was missing and joined Nico in going looking for him. They found his passports, credit cards, and money in a hotel room, and Nico explained that Marshall put together his own money to save him when an informant blew his cover and handed him over in Iraq. The episode ended with Dani crying over Lindsay’s dead fish when Nico joined her with a package Marshall had sent holding the tapes and news that they found Marshall’s body. Dani hugged him, and then the following happened:
Nico: “He was the only one who knew me. Except you.”
Dani (pulling back): “I don’t know you.”
Nico: “Yeah, you do.”
Matt’s devious side With TK in rehab, they needed a new receiver, and it was up to Matt to make that happen, even as they searched for Marshall. Matt had to go up against Maroney for Toes, and he had the added pressure of losing his job if he didn’t get them a new player. Maroney called it payback for ruining his relationship with TK and losing him money.
So Matt went behind Maroney’s back and called Noelle for a social and business lunch. He told her the Hawks were going to announce TK was inactive for the first three weeks but promised he’d be back. He also needed her to tease a rumor about the Hawks’ interest in Toes. It all worked out, with Maroney there to watch Toes’ first game with the Hawks. Matt was no longer interim GM and was welcomed to management.
Meanwhile, in Matt’s personal life, Dani called him after TK stopped by her house, and once he made sure she was safe, he asked if he could call her back in the morning. That was because Noelle was sleeping next to him. Later on, there was an awkward moment where he apologized to her, but before they could discuss for what, Nico interrupted.
Bad decisions have worse consequences Ray let his friend grow weed in his yard, and they began talking strategy for the draft. Ray insisted they go with TK in the second round and even went to Matt for the inside track. However, before they could talk much, Matt had to leave after getting a call. Ray continued to defend choosing TK before finding out about him being in rehab too late.
The boys had no chance in their fantasy football league, and when Ray told his friend to get his weed out of his yard, his friend broke his taillight before leaving. When Ray was on his way to get rid of the weed, an officer pulled him over for the busted taillight, noticed he was nervous, and asked him to step out of the car. Ray asked to call his father.
What now? TK had quite the wake-up call with Jimmy, and it looks like he’s going to stick with rehab this time around, but what will that mean for when he returns to the Hawks? Even if he stays with it through the end, he could still relapse. They’re going to have to keep an eye on him when he comes home.
There are going to be some complicated love lives when the series returns. What will come of the Dani/Nico kiss? Will they brush it off as a one-time thing, comforting one another in a tough time, or could this lead to new developments in their relationship? Will Matt tell Dani about what happened with Noelle? Work could get very interesting very fast.
How’s Ray going to explain his way out of the situation he’s in? Will his father be able to help, or will this be something that sticks with Ray for some time? Dani is not going to be happy when she finds out.
This was the mid-season finale of “Necessary Roughness.” What did you think of “All the King’s Horses”?
