Newsweek – the same magazine that dubbed Obama “god of all things” – calls presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney a “wimp” on an upcoming cover.
Buzzfeed reported Sunday the magazine used the same cover line it “famously used to needle George H.W. Bush in 1987.”
The magazine then asked: “Is he just too insecure to be president?”
The Romney campaign responded to the cover, saying the magazine was “beyond silly when it called former World War II Naval aviator and savvy Texas oilman George H.W. Bush a ‘wimp’ on its cover in 1987.”
“The magazine returns to the same failed playbook now with its cover on Governor Romney. The fact is that Mitt Romney is a steely-nerved businessman, who has turned around failed companies, the corruption-plagued 2002 Olympic Winter Games and an almost-bankrupt Massachusetts – against all odds in each case,” said Robert O’Brien, a Romney foreign policy adviser.
“Moreover, he has raised a great family with his wife, Ann. Notwithstanding these sorts of ridiculous attacks, the American people elected President Bush in 1988 and they will send Governor Romney to the White House in 100 days to turn around this economy.”
Newsbusters’ Brent Baker said that Newsweek “is hardly the same publication it was when it denigrated presidential candidate Bush…”
“Then it was owned by the Washington Post Company and while liberal it was part of the mainstream media. Now it is owned by liberal activists and run by the very liberal Tina Brown,” he added.
On Sunday, Romney told CBS News’ Face the Nation that he never recalled anyone ever calling him a wimp, and added that he’s not too concerned about what the so-called “mainstream media” says about him.
“If I worried about what the media said I wouldn’t get much sleep and I’m able to sleep pretty well,” he told Jan Crawford.
Newsweek is also the same magazine that asked why Obama’s critics are “so dumb,” and used religious imagery to portray Obama as a progressive holy man when he reverted to his 1996 position on gay marriage.
