Michael Haley, husband of South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, received orders Monday from the South Carolina National Guard to deploy to Afghanistan in January, the Governor confirmed. He is scheduled to return at the end of the year.
This will be the first overseas deployment for Haley who is being deployed as an individual and will be a liaison between an agricultural unit and Afghan leaders.
“The kids and I couldn’t be more proud of him,” Haley said of her husband, “and we will continue to be proud of every man and woman that puts on the uniform that defends the freedoms of this country every day.”
In speeches, the Governor often talks about her pride in seeing her husband put on his military uniform every morning to go to work. She tells military spouses that it is important to make sure all is well on the home front during a deployment.
“We are a military family,” she said Monday addressing the media. “We have always been a military family. We are like every other military family across this country and when your family gets the call you have to respond and so Michael has gotten the call and he will be deployed.”
Nikki Haley said there is not a military spouse that does not worry but there is not a military spouse without an amazing amount of pride in the military. “It’s what they do. It’s what they love.”
