We talked yesterday about Nintendo Power magazine and how it was ending it’s run after twenty four years. Apparently the licensing agreement between Nintendo and the magazine’s current publisher Future Publishing is expiring and Nintendo isn’t interested in keeping the magazine going.
What we didn’t know however is how much longer the gaming magazine has, and now we do. Nintendo went ahead and confirmed that the December 2012 issue of Nintendo Power will be it’s last issue. For those of you who still we magazines (we do), you’ll get the issue in November.
“Nintendo can confirm that Future US will end the production of Nintendo Power magazine with the last issue slated for December 2012,” said the company to CVG.
We’ve had a few people speculate that the magazine coming to and end was a cost cutting measure, but none of that has been reported as the reason why Nintendo doesn’t want to keep the magazine around. Nintendo hasn’t been publishing the magazine since 2007, so them cutting the mag doesn’t seem to have any bearing on their budget.
Plus it’s Nintendo, they aren’t exactly going broke. Regardless, one of the last enduring relics of our childhood is coming to an end later this year. We may just pick the last copy up for a trip down memory lane.
