For the first time since I became of age to vote, I do not know who I am going to vote for in this 2012 Presidential Election. Surprised? Disappointed? Did you assume that my being African American would mean that my vote automatically went to Barack Obama? Well, no one owns my vote. For certain, I have issues with both candidates. Our president, Barack Obama supports same-sex marriage and abortion – I do not. Politics withstanding, our presidential candidate, Mitt Romney is as a Mormon who believes that Mary the mother of Jesus was not a virgin and does not believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God – I do.
Some people are telling me that I have to vote. They say just vote for the lesser of the two evils. But how does a Christian deliberately vote in degrees of evil? With each passing day, my decision becomes more elusive.
With that said, there are many issues that plague the 2012 Presidential election. Unfortunately the Body of Christ here in the United States has offered very little in terms of sound biblical counsel and wisdom as we look to vote for the president of the United States. Rather than obey the Scriptures and pray for whomever is in office we have taken on the spirit of the world and pledge our allegiance to political parties instead of pledging allegiance to the cause of Christ. Christians battling one another like arch-enemies because they do not share the same political beliefs is shameful to say the least.
The issue of race is clearly carrying the torch in the 2012 race for the White House. Many will deny it vehemently, but there will be people who will vote for Barack Obama just because he is black and there will be people who will vote for Mitt Romney because he is not black. As a Christian and a voter I must contend with self-serving agendas wrapped in garbs of religious self-righteousness on one hand and anti-biblical agendas masquerading as civil and constitutional freedoms on the other. When the curtain is closed, who will get my vote?
