In a new ad released yesterday, President Barack Obama has adopted Doonesbury’s approach to showing that Mitt Romney is a hypocrite about outsourcing jobs to China.
In Obama’s new television commercial, Obama debunks Mitt Romney’s promises to crack down on China’s trading practices, by coming right out and saying that the Romney profited by allowing China to steal jobs from the U.S.
Romney has been running around the country telling everybody that exporting jobs has ruined the American economy, despite the Washington Post story that Bain Capital, the company founded by Mitt Romney, was a pioneer in the practice of shipping good jobs overseas to countries like China and India.
Doonesbury cartoonist Garry Trudeau has been nailing Mitt Romney a lot lately for being a hypocrite about outsourcing jobs to China. Just last week three Doonesbury strips nailed Romney for his hypocritical stance on outsourcing.

Chinese government spokeswoman Ms. Huan at podium: “Good morning. My name is Ms. Huan. Thank you all for coming today.”
Ms. Huan: “We in China noted with delight the recent revelation that Mr. Mitt Romney once bought and ran two outsourcing companies.”
Ms. Huan: “My government wishes me to convey our deep gratitude for the governor’s leadership in bringing thousands of new jobs to China.”
Fox News reporter in the audience: “Yeah. But aren’t they crap jobs? Who’d want them?
Ms. Huan: “Mr. Romney, the masses salute you!”
“I placed my bet on the American worker. And I’ll make that bet any day of the week.”

News reporter in the audience: “Wow…sounds great!
Ms. Huan: “Thanks. We call it the Chinese dream.”

Chinese government spokeswoman Ms. Huan at podium: “So on behalf of a grateful nation, I‘d like to present the handsome plaque to…”
Ms. Huan: “Oh dear, it appears no one from the Romney camp was available to attend today!”
Ms. Huan: “Is there anyone here who can accept the people’s gift on Mr. Romney’s behalf?”
Fox News reporter in the audience: “I can! I’m from Fox News!”
Ms. Huan: “Excellent! Come on up, sir!”
In the June 24 Doonesbury, Trudeau also nailed Mitt Romney for exporting jobs to China.
Doonesbury will probably continue to bash Romney as long as Romney keeps trying to get people to focus on what he says he will do rather on what he has actually done.
In the meantime, Obama has adopted a similar strategy. Obama’s new ad ends with a solid parting shot; a narrator says Romney is “not the solution. He’s the problem.”
