OJ Murdock died in Tampa Monday. The Tennessee Titans wide receiver was found dead of an apparent suicide in front of Middleton High School, his Alma Mater.
Monday, My Fox Tampa reported news that the 25-year-old talented high school sprinter and NFL standout had likely taken his life today.
Murdock (in this photo) was found in a silver sports car in front of his former high school, where he was once a popular track and field star. It is unknown why he was parked in front of Middleton.
Tampa police said that the wide receiver appears to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. While he was taken to nearby Tampa General Hospital, the Titans wide receiver was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Titans released a statement after WR OJ Murdock was found dead. It read:
“We are shocked and saddened to hear of O.J. Murdock’s death this morning. In his brief time here, a number of our players, coaches and staff had grown close to O.J., and this is a difficult time for them. He spent the last year battling back from an Achilles injury as he prepared for this year’s training camp. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as they try to cope with this tragedy.”
Murdock was an unsigned free agent, who was plagued by a nagging injury to his Achilles tendon. It is unknown if this has anything to do with OJ’s cause of death.
While OJ Murdock is dead of what looks like an apparent suicide, Tampa police will likely investigate further to rule out foul play, while searching for a motive for the Tennessee Titans wide receiver.
