Just a hop away from San Jose, San Francisco is home to one of the best fish and chips ever. It may seem like such an invalid reason to make such a long trek for a meal, but it is well worth it; plus there’s always shopping, city sites, and people-watching to take in as added incentives.
To avoid any unfavorable parking situations, drive to the Fremont BART station, make a stop at the Powell station, and follow the path into the Westfield San Francisco Centre. With just a few steps, you will enter into the food court. Such a nice way to welcome a guest, isn’t it?
With so many places to choose from, it’s easy to make a wrong choice and leave dissatisfied and wishing you had what that table next to you was having. Well, let’s make it easy for you. Head straight to CATCH ISLE and you will not be disappointed. Have trouble making up your mind on what to have? Don’t give it another thought. Order the fish and chips! At just $5 for 2 pieces of light and flaky (not greasy) pieces of fish, slender and crispy french fries, and a playful side of cole slaw, you can’t beat the price. If you’re a little hungrier, add on an extra piece of fish for a dollar more. That’s still a bargain at $6. What more could you ask for?
Personal note #1: My first visit to Catch Isle was so memorable that every time I go to Union Square, I insist on eating at the food court at the shopping center. Years ago, a bite of their fish transformed me to a time when I was just a little girl. It brought such a fond memory and nostalgic smile. I almost cried. It reminded me of my childhood, a time when my parents would take me and my sister to Eastridge mall in San Jose and we would eat at the food court. There was a place I believe was called Piccadilly Fish and Chips. We would get fish and chips there and I would have it with fried rice from the Chinese food place. Go figure. That’s the beauty of variety at the food court, I suppose…and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Personal note #2: Eating fish and chips at Catch Isle reminds me of all the times I’ve eaten fish and chips at other places. Of course, it always reminds me of being a kid, but it also makes me feel like I’m on vacation or visiting Monterey and enjoying the fresh ocean breeze, beautiful blue skies, and white sand beaches. I just love the way the power of food is able to create such magical experiences.

Tip: When taking BART, try to plan your visit on the weekends when all the commuters are on weekend mode. It’ll make your SF trip more enjoyable.
