New York-Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Pakistan’s Movement for Justice) was a huge hit at this year’s Pakistan Day Parade in New York City. Scores of people showed their support for PTI by waving the party flags along with Pakistani flags throughout the event.
Headed by cricketer turned politician Imran Khan, the party is expected to be one of the major stake holders in the country’s upcoming elections being held early next year. Khan’s PTI gained huge popularity mainly because of the failure of PPP (Pakistan People’s Party) and PMLN (Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz group) governments to provide relief to the common Pakistani.
New York team of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf also held a membership drive at the Parade which was a huge success. Hundreds of people stopped by the booth to sign up for membership and encourage the local leadership of the party.
Praising the local team’s initiative to attend the parade Mr. Shahzad Malik who was at there with his family said:
“It’s great to see the PTI family here as well, please know that PTI is the only party that truly represents the people of Pakistan. We want to see PTI form the next government in the upcoming elections in Pakistan.”
Most Pakistani Americans still have strong ties in Pakistan and closely follow the political situation of the country. Many are excited about the recently granted right to vote for Overseas Pakistanis in the upcoming elections.
Another Parade goer, Mr. Amjad Saleem said: “I have been encouraging friends and family here in the US and Pakistan to vote for PTI in the next elections so we can put Pakistan on the road to prosperity”.
The local PTI chapters have played a very important role in spreading the message of the party and have been holding events to encourage the Pakistani American community to play their role in bringing real democracy to the nation of over 180 million which for the most has been ruled by the military or corrupt politicians.
Talking to pingroof.com former PTI NY Information Secretary Bilal Shah said: “I have been totally humbled by the support we have been receiving throughout the day. It’s great to see scores of Pakistani Americans being proud of their Pakistani heritage and supporting a positive change in the country.”
