Percy Street Barbecue (900 South St) is a Texas-style barbecue joint by chef co-owners Steven Cook and Michael Solomonov of Zahav, Xochitl and Federal Donuts fame. The menu features a selection of delicious, slow-cooked meats, simply prepared with dry rub seasoning, a la Texas style, which does not feature the thicker sauces more commonly known in other regional barbecue.
For starters, try the deviled eggs, creamy mac & cheese, or turkey tails, smoked and served with a sweet bbq sauce. Meat options include brisket, pulled pork, ribs, sausage, chicken and pork belly, available in a platter with white bread, sour pickle, and choice of side, in half and full pound options, or as a sandwich. Hearty sides include burnt-end beans, root beer chili, collard greens, cole slaw, green bean salad, fries, and potato salad. Each type of meat is flavorful and moist, charred on the outside and tender on the inside. The ribs are meaty and falling off the bone, the brisket is juicy and smoky, and the pork belly is fatty and luscious. For large, hungry groups, order the Lockhart, a sampling of Percy’s entire menu including sides and dessert, available to parties of 4 or more at $24 per person. Desserts including banana cream pie, apple crisp, and pecan pie finish the meal. Percy Street also offers craft beers, whiskeys and cocktails.
In keeping with the simple style food, Percy Street’s décor is simple and rustic. Long wood tables and brown pleather-topped small tables fill the large open space. A roll of paper towel and a pitcher of water sit on each table for convenience. Custom black board walls highlighting the menu, a vintage jukebox, and furniture made from recycled materails add to the vibe. The servers are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the food.
Happy Hour Mon-Fri 5-6pm features half price drink and food specials. Percy Street is closed on Mondays. Open for lunch on weekends. Takeout and catering also available.
Percy Street recently opened a second location at the Comcast Center lower level concourse. Everything is smoked and prepared at the main location and sent over each day. Open Mon-Fri 10am-7pm, Sat 10am-5pm. $10 combo includes a choice of any sandwich, a side and drink.
