A Brooklyn 2-year-old and her pregnant mother were mugged earlier this month for the toddler’s $300 bracelet. According to the “Christian Post,” the crime set off a rash of toddler robberies in New York recently.
Michael Andrews, 30, was arrested for the crime. It is astonishing that he stole the bracelet from Destiny Maizanche and her pregnant mother Adriani Espinal. Espinal said, “He didn’t care that I was pregnant and he was stealing from a little girl. He grabbed my necklace and then he went for the baby. I told him to leave the baby alone because she was crying.”
What kind of hardened criminal robs a pregnant woman and a toddler? It seems that people are not deterred by the age of their victims though because Harvey Hernandez, 3, was also robbed in the area. Thieves stole a $400 chain from around his neck as he was riding in his stroller.
Later, Andrews was arrested after robbing somebody else, and Espinal was able to identify him in a lineup. One thing is certain, parents will have be careful of their toddlers in the area. Perhaps toddlers will have to leave their expensive jewelry at home, which is sad.
