It will be a happy day for Sato pups on Saturday, August 4. The Wonder Bar in Asbury Park, New Jersey will be hosting Project Animal Worldwide’s “Third Annual Sato Reunion.” The party is scheduled from 4-7 p.m. Project supporters and the general public are invited to attend along with the many rescued Sato dogs and their new “forever families” across New Jersey and New York.
“The word Sato is slang for mutt,” said Ellen La Torre, treasurer for Project Animal Worldwide (PAW). “There are approximately 200,000 abandoned cats and dogs in Puerto Rico. Shelters in Puerto Rico have a 97% euthanasia rate. PAW has formed partnerships in order to rescue many of these animals and find good homes for them here.”
During the reunion, the inspiring work of Dr. Jose Cruz, spay/neuter veterinarian at the Humane Society of Puerto Rico will be honored.
“Consistent with our mission of spay/neuter and humane education, Project Animal Worldwide is thrilled to honor Dr. Jose Cruz of the Humane Society of Puerto Rico for his dedication to animal welfare,” said La Torre. “Dr. Cruz has spearheaded several spay/neuter ‘intervention’ days in rural areas of Puerto Rico resulting in the sterilization of hundreds of pets. PAW had the privilege of participating in two of these interventions.”
The reunion event fundraisers will include a 50/50 raffle, a gift auction raffle, jewelry sale and PAW branded merchandise. In addition, the Satos will receive a commemorative Puerto Rico flag bandana. The first 25 Sato “parents” will receive a PAW tote bag.
Admission to the event is only $10 per person and $20 for a family of four. Please bring proof of rabies vaccination if you attend with your dog. All money will be donated to PAW to further their efforts in assisting with feral cat TNR programs, community-wide spay/neuter days and general education/awareness programs across Puerto Rico.
