Forecast discussion: High pressure over the Great Lakes gave Providence more sunshine and warm temperatures. We will continue to see good weather for Thursday, with temperatures slowly climbing into the upper 80’s in the inland areas of the state. By the weekend, we will return to hot and humid conditions, as the Bermuda high returns tropical moisture into the air.
As we begin early next week, the computer models disagree on when we will actually see showers and thunderstorms. A weak cold front will slide through the state on Sunday. This front may help create some rainfall by Sunday afternoon. However, the United Kingdom model suggests that the best chance for thunderstorms will be Monday. After looking over all the models, I have to disagree. There are not enough parameters to see any strong thunderstorms. There is the chance of an isolated thunderstorm along the coast, possibly created by a forming sea breeze. Tuesday looks to be a dry day, as we will be protected by a weak area of high pressure. I hope to get a better idea about the extended period over the next few days. By Wednesday, a stronger cold front out of Canada will bring another round of rainfall.
In the tropics, the Atlantic continues to be quiet during this time. In the Pacific, Hurricane Emilia has top winds of 105 mph, as it moves well south of Baja California. She is forecasted to lose hurricane force winds by Friday morning. Meanwhile, another low pressure area 400 miles south of Manzanillo, Mexico is looking to intensify. There is a 90 percent chance this will become a tropical system in the next 48 hours.
