Forecast discussion: An area of high pressure continues to give Providence abundant sunshine and very warm temperatures. Our weather will be influenced by a high pressure system that will center itself near Bermuda. This high will create southwest winds for the weekend, and allow more moisture to move into the atmosphere. So, the air will begin to feel heavier and dense. Our dew point temperatures will increase into the upper 60’s, which makes the air feel uncomfortable. Also, temperatures will begin to reach the lower 90’s, especially on Saturday.
The only relief we may get from this weather is the chance for some afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms from Sunday afternoon into early Monday morning. This will be due to a weak front passing over New England. The front may even help create some isolated thunderstorms Monday afternoon. By Tuesday, a weak ridge of high pressure will bring back the dry weather. But, another cold front will move through Southern New England, giving us another chance for showers and thunderstorms for Wednesday.
In the tropics, the Atlantic Ocean continues to be quiet to any tropical activity. In the Eastern Pacific, Daniel weakened into a remnant low, and the National Hurricane Center is no longer making advisories for the system. Hurricane Emilia now has sustained winds of 105 mph, but is forecasted to weaken to a tropical storm by Friday evening. Finally, a new system has been named, Tropical Storm Fabio. Yes, for those who remember this name in the 1990’s, you have my permission to laugh. The system is forecasted to become a hurricane by early Saturday morning.
