Forecast discussion: A weak ridge of high pressure gave Providence another hot and humid day in the city. There was a sprinkle or two in the air early Saturday morning, but we may have only received a trace of rain. On Sunday, we may have a chance at seeing some showers or a thunderstorm in the afternoon, as a weak cold front moves through the Northeast U.S. later in the day. By Monday, we will return to the hot and humid conditions, with highs reaching the middle 90’s in some isolated areas. The hot and humid weather will continue into Tuesday.
However, the computer models are agreeing that some cooler air will move over New England later in the week. On Wednesday, a cold front will move through the region by the late afternoon. The front may help trigger some scattered showers and thunderstorms. However, the front will take the humid conditions with it, as drier air moves in behind the front. By the next weekend, highs will only reach the lower to middle 80’s, with more comfortable sleeping weather at night. Temperatures will fall into the lower to middle 60’s.
In the tropics, there are no areas being watched in the Atlantic Ocean. In the Eastern Pacific, Tropical Storm Emilia has sustained winds of 50 mph. Emilia is forecasted to weaken below a tropical depression in the next 48 hours. It will then become a remnant low. Meanwhile, Hurricane Fabio has increased to a category two hurricane, with sustained winds of 105 mph. But, the system will begin to weaken, as it moves into cooler waters.
