Fall running season is on the way and many runners will be looking for the best races. Most 5K races are benefits for a person or group.
There are many races in the Lynchburg area but some runners like to combine a trip to the beach with a running event.
Running on the beach is a great way to enjoy the beauty of nature while staying in shape. On any early morning, you will find runners enjoying the beach as they get in a training run.
Here are five upcoming races held at the beach. Three are in Virginia and two are in South Carolina. They are among many races you can find and register for at the Running in the USA website.
The Sandman Triathlon will be held oceanfront at Virginia Beach on Sunday, September 16 at 7:30 a.m. This race is part of the Neptune Festival and includes a 750 meter ocean swim, a 14 mile bike ride, and a 5k run on the boardwalk. Registration closes on September 7 or when the limit of 900 is reached. There is no race day registration or packet pickup so plan ahead for this event.
The 3rd Annual Run for Clean Water will be held at First Landing State Park, 2500 Shore Drive in Virginia Beach on September 29 at 9 a.m. The event, sponsored by Engineers Without Borders, improves the quality of life with sustainable engineering projects. The Susan G. Komen Tidewater Race for the Cure 5K will be held on Saturday, October 13 at 31st and Atlantic Avenues in Virginia Beach. Race for the Cure is the largest series of 5K walks and runs in the world, raising awareness and money for the fight against breast cancer. Register online or on race day.
The Capers ECOrun is a series of 10K and 5K beach walks/runs which are held at Isle of Palms, South Carolina. The runs benefit the Lowcountry hungry through Charleston Chef’s ‘Feed the Need’ program. The events will be held on August 26, September 23, October 14 and November 11. Isle of Palms is one of Charleston’s most beautiful barrier islands, which runners reach by ferry. This is a great opportunity to run in a gorgeous location and help others.
The TRI HHI will be held at Coligny Beach Park on the south end of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina on September 15 beginning at 7:30 a.m. The event includes a 500 meter swim in the Atlantic Ocean, 12.5 mile bike ride and 5K run, both on a fast, flat loop track. The field is limited to 250 so don’t wait too long to register for this event.
