In a development that came to many as not a question of ‘if’ buy only ‘when,’ Samsung has just announced its first Android Powered camera, the Galaxy Camera. In its press release, Samsung stated that the Galaxy Camera is a virtual clone of its Galaxy SIII smartphone, sans the ability to make calls. The real kicker: unlike Nikon’s Android-powered Coolpix S800c, the Galaxy Camera runs on the latest version of the Android operating system and features 3G/4G connectivity, too. .
So, what of the Galaxy Camera?
According to Samsung, anyone familiar with an Android smartphone or tablet will feel at home right away with the new Galaxy Camera as it is capable of the same things any other Android-powered gadget is capable of doing, which includes browsing the Internet via wi-fi, uploading images to the web, downloading apps and games, and sending images to another Android device. It should also be noted that the camera can also download photo-related apps, too. The basic idea: one can now combine the full functionality of Android with a real camera.
Outside of its operating system, the Galaxy Camera packs some pretty impressive features for a point and shoot. First of all, there’s the 21x zoom lens, very impressive in of itself and even more so when packed into a camera the size of a phone. As for the LCD screen, it is the Galaxy standard 4.8 inch, touch screen version, the same as on the phone. Other features include 35 photo editing tools, a smart auto mode, a ‘smart content manager’ function, and full HD video capability. Last but not least is a real treat for the real techno geeks: voice command control.

As for pricing and availability, both are still TBA, sorry.
