There is a real jewel available in San Diego for your personal use. That jewel is the La Jolla Playhouse which will host “David Steinberg: Still Disguised as a Normal Person” at the playhouse Thursday, August 16, http://lajollaplayhouse.org Located at 2910 La Jolla Village Drive the playhouse has given birth to many productions which ended up on New York’s Broadway.
Steinberg is still one of this country’s favorite comics. This showcase is David developing a new one-man show which accounts for his life in show business. Tickets for Mr. Steinberg’s show are $20 and that’s quite a bargain by today’s standards.
This playhouse is a Tony Award-winning non-profit theatre. It’s mission is to foment theatre as an art form, providing creativity to artists who might otherwise have no voice on the national scene.
La Jolla Playhouse has received over 300 awards for excellence. It was begun in 1947 by Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire and Mel Ferrer, who lived just a stones throw away and would give voice to young talent and help cultivate the form.
The regional play “Hands on a Hardbody”, just ending it’s La Jolla Playhouse run, has just moved on to Broadway. Our playhouse has been responsible for sending 23 plays to Broadway. The Playhouse commissioned “Hands on a Hardbody” four years ago, which means they started working with the assembled creative team, including composer Trey Anastasio (Phish), lyricist Amanda Green, and playwright Doug Wright (“I Am My Own Wife”). Given that this theatre was born as a creative nursery, it has certainly achieved its stated mission well.
Other magnets forming the jewel include the Cove La Jolla Cove, an open air market La Jolla Open Aire Market, Parks, Visitor Resources, http://www.lajollabythesea.com, and plenty of the best eateries anywhere Dining.
