A 25-year-old Santa Cruz woman was killed Friday night after falling out of a party bus on Highway 17 in Los Gatos.
The San Jose Mercury News has identified the victim as Natasha Noland. She is the daughter of Todd and Sue Noland, who own Pacific Wave Surf Shop.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Noland was reportedly fighting with another girl on the bus when the pair fell down the stairs and the doors opened as the bus was traveling on southbound Highway 17 near Lark Avenue. She had been struck by the bus after falling onto the highway just before midnight.
The highway was closed between Lark and Highway 9 for about three hours as the CHP conducted their investigation, according to the Mercury News.
The group of 12 to 15 women was apparently intoxicated on the bus as they were returning from a concert at Shoreline Amphitheater. The surviving victim was treated for moderate injuries at a local hospital and has not been charged with any crime. Two of the other women were arrested for public intoxication. Several others fled the scene after the accident, the Mercury News reports, and most refused cooperation with investigators.
The bus was owned and operated by Party Bus of Santa Cruz.
