We enjoyed Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World movie, even if a lot of people don’t like Michael Sara. You can imagine our excitement when the Xbox 360 got the downloadable title, “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game”. The game was set to be a throwback to all the beat em ups of the 80’s, like “Double Dragon”.
The game delivered on it’s promise, incorporating the Scott Pilgrim style with great looking graphics and rock solid gameplay. The only issue the game has was, it was tedious. Enemies would take ten or fifteen hits to put down for good, and that was in the first level. We’re not saying it’s a hard game, we’re saying our thumbs were worn out before the end of the first level, which seemed to drag on and on without an kind of good flow.
Regardless, a lot of people downloaded the game, and there’s been some DLC for it since it dropped back in 2010. Today we heard, thanks to Major Nelson, that there’s some more DLC coming out for the game. The DLC, priced at 400 MSP ($5) will add Wallace Wells to the mix of playable fighters, and also include online multiplayer, a feature that wasn’t included in the game when it launched. The DLC is expected to land on August 19th.
Now we’re a bit confused on adding the online multiplayer to the game. We accepted the game didn’t have the feature when it launched, and it should have. To release the feature now, two years and hundreds of games later, is an odd choice. We’re certain die hard Scott Pilgrim fans will come back and play with a friend or two, but we don’t think this is going to cause a surge in game sales.
Had the online multiplayer been introduced a month or two after the game’s launch, it would make a lot of sense. They could have even released while the game was on sale, but instead they waited two years.
Better late then never.
