There is a little gem on YouTube called The Glee Spoofs. The channel that run’s the series is called SIMGM, that pronounced SIM-G-M. I play Kurt Hummel on the series’ and wanted to ask some of my cast mates, not all 17 of them, but The Boss (Rachel, WIll, Santana, Quinn), The Boss’s Brother (Finn, Brittany, Blaine) Will Morring (Sam) and Scott Carter (Puck) some questions.
Q: So Boss, What inspired you to create the spoof’s?
The Boss: The writing on the show was becoming worse every episode and I just couldn’t take it, so I used art to express my feelings. Season 1 of Glee was amazing. But, at least the bad writing helped me create the spoofs!
Q: How does the music come together so flawlessly on the show?
The Boss: I like the song to help move the story along. It’s easy for me to pick a number that fit’s the storyline, it’s not like BAM, here’s another music video. Cell Block Tango was so much fun, because it had story’s throughout the whole song.
Q: Do you ever feel famous when you receive all the love from the fan’s?
The Boss: I don’t necessarily feel famous, but I do feel grateful. We’ve grown so much since the first episode and it’s just become so big. I never imagined having merchandise and song’s on iTunes. The fan’s are amazing, and I hope they keep loving what we’re doing.
Q: Who are you’re favorite characters to voice?
Quinn, I love writing her line’s and recording them is just too fun! Rachel’s excitement and bitchy attitude can also be fun.
You’re probably wondering why we call her the boss…it’s a secret.
The Boss’s Brother:
Q:Who is your favorite character to voice?
My favorite character to voice is either Mercedes or Blaine. I love to voice Mercedes because it comes so naturally and singing for her is always fun! It took me a while to get comfortable with Blaine’s voice I just had to be myself.
Q:What is it like working with the boss?
Working with my sister (Boss) can be so much fun. We really do have the same sense of humor so that always helps make the spoofs funnier. A times it can get a little rough when recording a song because my voice isn’t as strong as her’s, and there are notes for certain characters that are had to reach.
Because my sister work’s so hard I try to slow her down so she won’t mess up anything. I do voices, sing, make clothes for the characters…but she does more. It can be hard, but it’s always fun!
Scott Carter- Puck:
Q: What’s been your favorite episode to record for so far, and do you have a favorite scene?
Scott:Basically any scene where Quinn and Puck are alone are my favorite. Especially when she’s telling him about her crazy plans, because Puck and Quinn’s chemistry practically creates itself. My favorite is the first or second SIMGM episode of season 3, when Puck is convincing Quinn with Shelby to turn her act around, and when it appears to Puck that Quinn does, she reveals “IGBBP” Or “I’ve Got Big Baby Plans”.
Q: You joined the cast a few months after production had started. Were you nervous coming on to a series as big as the Glee spoof’s?
Scott:I wasn’t really nervous, I was a bit worried about my sound quality, because I have to use a second-rate recording program for the Mac, and it’s does not sound like the rest of the crew at all. I would use what they use or at least buy a Mic, but I really don’t have the money and I wouldn’t use it for anything else but that. But the fanbase is awesome and they don’t make me nervous (I act a lot, so being on stage is fun, so is only having your voice heard) but it is really fun to see their reactions to stuff. In short, I love Voice acting.
William Morring provides the voice for Sam, the trouty mouthed heartthrob on the show.
Q:What’s been your favorite episode to work on so far?
Will:My favorite one to voice was the Hold Onto A Girl Episode. I loved the spoof of how awkward Sam’s return was and how ridiculous all of the cheating subplots are on Glee. I thought it was hilarious and very fun to voice.
Q: I alway’s find the scripts funny, what is your first reaction when you read the script?
Will:I’m always very excited to read the script. With the most recent episodes, it’s fun to see how the spoofs mirror the other episodes and make fun of the inconsistencies of the episodes. It’s very fun and exciting to read!
The series is amazing, the cast is a giant heap of talent, and “The Boss” is amazing. Stay tuned for more to come from SIMGM!
