Sponsored by US Bank, The Nutty Professor musical production is directed by the comic legend Jerry Lewis, also known as The King of Comedy.
Lewis collaborated with Marvin Hamlisch; Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Grammy Award winner and three-time Tony Award winner Rupert Holmes, along with lead actor Michael Andrew and choreographer JoAnn M. Hunter to create a phenomenal musical rendition of the 1963 classic movie, in which Lewis himself starred, The Nutty Professor.
“The film that I made in 1963 was so good that I decided to do a Broadway show. And there is no better place to go to find out what you’ve got than Nashville.” Lewis stated. “It will be spectacular. After it’s over, give me a call and let me know if everything I said was spot on.”
And according the the tidbits of rehearsal I got to witness today, Lewis is, indeed, spot on. With the acting and musical talents of Michael Andrew as Julius Kelp/Buddy Love and the charmingly delightful character of Stella played by the gifted Marissa McGowan, there seems to be nothing to stop this show from becoming a Broadway box office phenomenon.
The Nutty Professor will be previewing at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville beginning on Tuesday July 24, with the actual opening night on July 31. Tickets can be bought at the TPAC box office or online at tpac.org.
