Churches across the city of Jacksonville Florida are informing their churches about the real issues concerning Ordinance/Bill 2012 – 296. At Faith Christian Center, Bishop George Davis has informing his congregation of the importance of being aware of political issues that could affect the church as a body. Below is a copy of the information that has been distributed so that people are knowledgeable and informed.
“In the city of Jacksonville, there is a bill that is currently being voted upon that should concern every Christian. The bill is 2012-296. The major concerns with bill 2012-296 are that it:
1) creates new and special rights for homosexuals;
2) threatens the integrity of Florida’s Marriage Amendment as the union of one man and one woman;
3) creates legal defenses for pedophiles;
4) creates more lawsuits and regulations for businesses;
5) violates religious freedoms.
Three committees debated and voted on the bill. It now heads to the full City Council for a final vote next Wednesday, August 15th, at 5:00pm. A majority vote by the 19-member body determines the outcome. Eight (8) members have now declared opposition to the bill, seven (7) have declared support, and four (4) have yet to cast a vote. With the narrow margin and the impact of the undeclared members, it is critically important that all Council Members be prayed for and that those four who have not cast their votes, plus a few others who did but may be persuaded to vote otherwise, receive input from the community between now and the August 15th meeting.
This is where we need your help. We ask that you call or email the Council Members that have yet to vote, as well as those who have voted in favor of the bill, and respectfully and lovingly let them know that as your representative, you would like to inform them that you oppose this bill and expect that they would “vote against 2012-296 with or without the substitute”. Tell them that you are an active voter and that moral and family values are important to you. Also, if you are able to attend the City Council meeting on August 15th at 5pm, you are encouraged to do so.
Below is a list of the members who have not voted or who have voted in favor of the bill and should be contacted:
