It’s not an everyday occurrence to sit down with a freshly signed artist. It’s not every day that you have the opportunity to sit down with a fantastic foursome like Houston’s own The Walls Group either. Can you imagine trying to bridle all that energy for a sit down interview? This examiner couldn’t either, but it was afforded as The Walls Group headlined Consolidated Baptist Church’s Back to School Night of Worship in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Walls Group has progressed from posting videos of them singing in their home to now being recorded in concert and uploaded to YouTube. After the release of their self-titled debut album on Wall2Wall Entertainment, the group became bigger than a household name. They became industry darlings and were talked about everywhere, from facebook to church choir rehearsals.
In Lexington, the Walls Group closed out the Back to School Night of Worship strong and on a high note and left an indelible mark on the Consolidated Baptist Church and the Lexington community. After the concert, The Walls Group and Undignified Praise sat down (there was little sitting, more fellowshipping) for dinner at Rafferty’s a local eatery. While there, this examiner had the opportunity to see the young singers on a different level…a normal level.
Here’s what came of that night’s dinner chat:
The Walls Group is best known for their remarkable gift of singing but did you know that Darrel is also a drummer and wrote the songs for the entire album? A quick glance at the liner notes may reveal that to a careful eye but there was other little known information shared.
Talking with the the youngest, Ahjah it was discovered that the group was birthed out of a singing video gram their mother was sending to a friend. After the video was sent, the video was shared on facebook and not only did views increase, requests for songs did as well.
Along with singing with their grandmother in her organization the children descend from very music al parents. Their parents Roger and Alicia, have served for a number of years in local churches serving as musician and Minister of Music. The Walls’ ascension into not only music, but the music industry is no surprise. The calm demeanor they possess upon entering such a fierce industry is however remarkable.
Mom and Pop Walls oversee every move their young children make and are grooming them for the longevity like the celebrated Winans family has enjoyed across many decades. If you think these four are amazing, just wait until ‘Little Walls’ grow up to sing with their big brothers and sisters. This amazing musical family is set to take gospel music by storm for many years to come. Stay tuned to the Plano Gospel Music Examiner for updates and information related to the Walls Group as they develop!
