After four seasons on Teen Mom, plus a year on 16 and Pregnant, the four original teen moms said their final goodbyes in the series finale, which aired August 28 on MTV.
After five years of ups and downs involving parenting, relationships and more, the series finished on a positive note about growing up in the face of teen parenting. If you didn’t catch the end, here’s a recap.
Maci Bookout. Teen mom, Maci, who was 17 when her son, Bentley, was born, continued to deal with custody battles with ex, Ryan Edwards. Throughout the season, Ryan continued to say he wanted to opt for 50/50 custody. He finally made it official when he went to see his lawyer to discuss the matter. Ryan also discussed wanting to stop Maci from being allowed to live with her boyfriend, Kyle, even though they have already lived together for the past two years. Ryan was put in his place by his girlfriend, Dalis, who stated: “What if we want to live together? We’ve talked about it. It’s the same thing.” When speaking with her mother, Maci insisted that she hoped Ryan would finally take her to court so Ryan would “Stop talking about it.”
Farrah Abraham. Single mother, Farrah, spent the first half of the show away from her daughter, Sophia, whom she sent to live with her mother in Omaha while she finished her semester of classes in Florida. Farrah passed her classes with all A’s and went to Omaha to bring Sophia back home with her with parting words for her mother that they would not be home for Christmas.
Catelynn Lowell. Catelynn and fiancé, Tyler Baltierra, who gave up their daughter, Carly, for adoption, dealt with outbursts of anger from the usual mellow Tyler. Tyler decided to speak with his counselor about his emotions. In a session full of tears, Tyler continued to say he wanted to cut ties with his incarcerated father, stating that he knows his father never loved him.
Amber Portwood. After years of an on-off relationship with boyfriend, Gary Shirley, and two years battling Child Protective Services (CPS) after an altercation between the couple, Amber starts dating a new guy. Gary retaliates to the news by throwing their daughter, Leah, a birthday party without Amber. The couple fired anger bombs upon each other via phone when Gary vows to get full-custody of Leah and never let Amber see her. Gary later apologizes and Amber agrees to sign over full-custody of Leah to Gary in order to “Get CPS off [their] backs.”
