Mayor William “Bill” Bohlke, 65, of Hollywood Park, TX was found dead yesterday, following an attack by a 500-pound donkey on his ranch near Pleasanton.
According to Atoscosa County Chief Deputy David Soward, Bohlke was out tending to his herd when the attack occurred. “While we’ll probably never know what triggered it, donkeys can become very aggressive, very mean, sometimes triggered by a female in heat,” he told the Associated Press. “However, it was evident that this particular donkey was involved based on evidence at the scene and what we saw on the animal.”
Bohlke had been a decorated B-52 pilot and squardron commander during the Vietnam War, and will be buried with full military honors at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on Tuesday.
