Through out the decades, women have been using different techniques to alter their imperfections. The new generation resorts to plastic surgery to get the perfect face structure, resulting in expensive and painful procedures. These procedures can sometimes result in permanent damage. However, that is no longer necessary if you learn the art of contouring and highlighting. You can recreate the natural shadows in your face and enhance your features by using makeup. Highlighting and contouring are essential to give your face more definition.
Celebrity makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin has mastered the art of contouring. His magical contouring strategies were featured in his books “Making Faces” and “Face Forward” .He teaches you the tricks of creating an illusion of a slimmer face, slender nose and higher cheek bones.
Highlighting is illuminating your best features. Lighter colors are used to emphasize the features in your face.
Contouring is shading and defining your face. Matte darker colors are used to define and minimize a feature by creating an illusion of depth. You can use a darker foundation or matte bronzer.
The following steps will help you create a polished celebrity look.
Before applying any makeup it is important to create an even surface by moisturizing, priming and applying your regular foundation as a base.
Nose: Apply a darker shade from the start of the eyebrow down to each side of your nose and blend. Lightly highlight down the center of your nose using a highlighter. This will give your nose a slimmer look. To shorten your nose, apply a darker color on the tip of your nose and blend.
Cheekbones: Suck in your cheeks ( creating a fish face), then apply a two shades darker color to fill the hollows under your cheek and a highlighter on the top of the cheekbones.
Forehead: Apply a darker bronzer to both of your temples and along your hairline. Blend to create a shadow effect. Apply a lighter concealor to the center of your forehead.
Chin: For a small, thin chin, apply highlighter to the center of the chin, directly under the center of the lip. To conceal a double chin, apply a darker color to your lower section of your chin and blend it towards the neck. Make sure to apply a contouring color on you neck to match your face.
Under eye: Apply a concealer from the inside corner of your eye and draw a line straight down to your nostril then draw the line up to the outside of that same eye creating a triangle. Then fill in that area with a lighter concealer and blend evenly. Apply a lighter powder to set the product in place.
Eyebrow: After drawing your eyebrows and filling them in, apply a highlighter on your eyebrow arch, and a little above your eyebrow. This will give you a lift.
