This week is considered by many to be the last real week of summer. School is back in session and this weekend is Labor Day. But even though schedules are about to change drastically from the laid back summer we’ve savored for as long as humanly possible, there are some happy hour times at some Baltimore bars that you’ll be happy to oblige.
Houlihans is not exclusive to Baltimore (other locations are scattered throughout the States) but their happy hour is not to be missed. The classic and delicious American restaurant is set in the Inner Harbor with views of the boats, water, bridges over canals and the National Aquarium; it’s perfect after a day spent in in the late summer sun when you still want to get a good view of the happenings outside. Happy Hour takes place in the bar and lounge with ½ off cocktails, draft beers and glasses of wine. But what really makes this hour truly happy are their $4 liters of Long Island Iced Teas. The teas can come in a variety of flavors by adding a new liquor to it: midori, peach and raspberry to name a few. Just one would be enough alcohol for most people but with these prices, have another. Just bring a friend to help you finish it.
Houlihans is located at 621 East Pratt Street 105, Baltimore, MD 21202. 443-872-3132.
Deliah Foley’s Pub in Federal Hill vies with the authenticated experience you’d receive in the actual country of Ireland, save for the fact that this place is much bigger than any crowded pub you’d find in Dublin. The two story bar plays traditional Irish music throughout, a cheery soundtrack to a happy hour that has a new special every night of the week from 4-7pm on weeknights, Saturdays until 5pm and all day on Sundays. $3 Jameson drinks are available on Wednesdays nights, $3 Newcastles and Yuenglings on Thursdays and $5 Pinnicale vodka drinks and shots on Saturdays. Known in part for their 25 different wing flavors, try the 2011 Wings War Competition winner flavor “Wings of Destiny” any night of the week because all wings in all flavors are just 49 cents each. For live entertainment to go with your drink, make your trip to Deliahs on Thursday September 6th for a free comedy show put on by the guys and gals at Color Me Funny. Seven local comedians set out to entertain their new venue in Baltimore just as they have at their established home at Sean Bolans Irish Pub in Bel Air. Be sure to get there by 8pm for a good seat to watch the show but don’t feel too rushed – Deliah Foley’s weeknight happy hour prices go conveniently all night until 2am. Some laughs and some Guinness in the heart of Fed Hill on a Thursday night? The question of what to do has been answered.
Deliah Foley’s is located at 1439 South Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21230. 443-682-9141
