Ask singles what they dislike about being single and two of the more popular responses you will hear are “the bar scene” and “the games”. Yet over the next few weeks, those two things might provide opportunity to meet that special somebody.
The Olympic Games are underway and even non-sports fans whose eyes roll at the thought of Monday Night Football will find themselves drawn to the screen when we have a chance to see Michael Phelps swim for the Gold. And that’s what makes this a golden (sorry about that) opportunity to get out to Game On by Fenway, The Fours near the Gahden or your local sports bar and meet some new people (unless you want to stay in and strike up a conversation with the pizza delivery person).
Afraid to go alone? Grab a pal to go with you. But get yourself out there to watch the games among your fellow citizens. Check the paper or the online schedules to see when your favorite events are airing and that’s the time to go — grab a seat at the bar or at a high table where there are gatherings of people who look like fun company, order up a beer or a glass of cranberry juice and cheer on your favorite athletes.
This is probably a better strategy for the ladies over the next few weeks. Why? Ever been at an airport when there was a huge sporting event happening? Lots and lots of MEN gathered around watching, amid shouts and cheers and high fives….with people they don’t even know. The competitiveness of sports stirs up energy and excitement in men, which makes them easier to play with and connect with.
Take advantage of these fantastic opportunities over the next few weeks by challenging yourself to get out there and engage with some of the remarkable people who live right in your neighborhood. Pop into a local tavern or sports bar, one that’s familiar to you and maybe one you’ve never been inside, and while you’re watching these amazing athletes push themselves to the limit, see how much you can stretch and what you might be able to accomplish with a bit of a flirting marathon of your own…
The Gold Medal at stake? That magical connection that you and your future partner have both been waiting for and hoping for. First, you need to meet each other. Make yourself findable the next few weeks by circulating and joining in on the awe inspiring spectacle that the Summer Olympics is for us all.
