There are electric cars and then, there are serious electric cars. The Rimac Concept_One has only one goal, be the best, achieve the most. In many ways, it does, it will and it will make your neighbors green with envy.
Originally announced at a steep a price tag of around $980,000, after further developments, the Rimac Concept_One has now reached the plump asking price of $1 million. So what do you get for $1 million dollar’s worth of electric car? One of 88 built and astonishing performance.
Technically Speaking. Let’s get to the good part first. 0 to 60mph in 2.8 seconds, a top speed of 190mph, 1,088 hp, 92-kWh battery pack and a 313 mile range. You may sit down now and let those numbers float around in your head since such performance comes in at a price. Using 4 electric in-wheel motors, the Concept_One should handle like a car on rails. With each motor system managed independently, torque, braking and other stabilizing features will happen seamlessly.
The Croatian wunderkind is clothed by none other than Pininfarina. But a million dollar doesn’t just offer you bragging right. It also gives you super lightweight materials that are tough, such as the carbon fiber body, as well as a number of safety features that should keep you safe should you loose control at high speed. The Concept_One will have front and side air bags, as well as ABS and safety disconnection of systems when you crash.
Life On Board. The biggest problem with super sports cars is visibility. No, we’re not talking about how visible the car is. Anyone and everyone should see you coming and going. What we’re talking about is rear-view visibility. Ask anyone with a Lamborghini Countach about rear-visibility and they won’t know what you are talking about. Just for fun, type “backing up with a Countach” in YouTube and enjoy the results. Now you know what I mean.
In order to overcome this obstacle, the Concept_One will use a rear-view camera display to make sure you will see what is behind you. It also will have two side displays for the driver, as well a high tech interactive console.
Competition? What competition? When it comes to competition, let’s just say that there is no competition. Yes, the Tesla Roadster packs some spectacular performance but can quite match what $1 million dollar can give you. And as for Audi’s r-tron prototype, it still trails behind this Mediterranean wonder. Not even the beautiful Lightning GT can compete here.
So the question that begs to be asked is who, where and when? To the first, obviously a few well off who appreciate exclusivity will understand the appeal of such a super electric car. Its introduction will be in the UK in September.
In the meantime, nothing compares to the Rimac Concept_One super electric car.
