Wrangle up your buddies and head on out to watch some fun horse activity later this week; you have two exciting options in the greater Salt Lake area.
Travel north to the Golden Spike Event Center for the Dash for Dollars 5D Barrel Race. Races start on Friday evening, August 3 and run through Sunday, August 4th. The Golden Spike is located at 1000 N. 1200 W. in Ogden.
Barrel racers will don traditional western attire (hat and a long sleeve shirt with jeans and boots) as they lay down some speedy runs to vie for the big-money prizes.
Time-only (practice) runs will take place from 2pm to 5:30 on Friday. At 6:30 pm the races begin.
Saturday morning races start at 9:00 a.m. and the Dash for Dollars Dirt Dance will wrap up the evening’s festivities. Concessions will be available.
On Sunday the races begin again at 9:00 in the morning. The event concludes with the awards presentation where barrel racers will receive cash, saddles and other amazing prizes.
This is an NBHA event; Utah #03 and #05 members will earn year-end points. No membership is required to run though; even if you’re not a registered NBHA member you are still welcome to enter! Fastest runs get the cash – membership or not.
Entries are still being accepted with an additional $10 late fee on top of the standard entry. Go to the NBHA Utah website for forms and complete entry information. Stalls are available at $20 per night; extra shavings can be purchased on site for $10 per bag.
If you’re a jumper fan, the UHJA Alta Hills show will take place in South Jordan (at the Salt Lake Equestrian Park) beginning Wednesday August 1 and running through Sunday, August 5.
This wonderful event will be held on the outdoor polo fields, adding to its traditional summery ambiance. There is no charge for spectators. Pack a cooler with beverages, your folding chair and a big-brimmed hat for shade. Sit back and enjoy the show!
With the 2012 Olympics in full swing, why not capture that competitive spirit and come out to cheer on our local equestrians?
Whether you enjoy the playful atmosphere of the wild-west barrel races or the classic English environment of the jumper circuit, you’re sure to witness some spectacular equine performances!
