Orchestra set to celebrate its 75th Anniversary Season
Tickets for individual concerts for the Canton Symphony Orchestra’s 75th anniversary season will be available beginning Tuesday, September 4, 2012. The season includes 7 concerts in the MasterWorks classical series, 3 Pops concerts, 4 performances in the Casual series, and education offerings that include SymphonyLand, Kinder Concerts and Young People’s concerts.
The MasterWorks series opens October 7, 2012 at 7:30pm in the newly renovated Umstattd Performing Arts Hall. The series continues monthly through April 20, 2013. Guest artists in the series are set to include Christine Brandes, Lucille Beer, Sara Davis Buechner, André Watts, and Amy Yekel.
The Pops series will feature Kent based folk band, The Speedbumps on October 26, 2012, the Canton Symphony Chorus, local high school choirs and the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps on December 16, 2012 for the Holiday Brass concert and Here to Stay-the Gershwin Experience featuring the music of George and Ira Gershwin on April 6, 2013.
The Education department is offering the Young People’s Concert in October 2012. The program, for students in grades 5-8, is The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, a one-act opera based on Washington Irving’s classic folk tale. SymphonyLand begins in January and is a series of 3 trios that introduces children to the various instruments of the orchestra. The Kinder Concert, a full orchestra performance for children in Pre-kindergarten through first grade, will be performed on April 17 & 18, 2013.
