From August through November Toyota will be building a ‘Limited Edition’ model based on the 2012 Camry SE sport sedan equipped with the 2.5L inline four. Similar to Scion Release Series this is an all-new model designation and not part of a year-end closeout and will include a special vehicle identification number (VIN). These vehicles should be arriving at Toyota dealerships by Labor Day Weekend.
This new Camry SE Sport Limited Edition combines a desirable equipment package with the proven Camry mid-size, four-cylinder sedan formula at a very accessible Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $25,995 (price does not include a Destination Preparation and Handling fee). The Camry SE Sport Limited Edition includes 18” alloy wheels with smoked finish, 8-way power seat, power sunroof, and Display Audio (6.1-inch touchscreen) with Navigation and Entune.
The exterior colors offered for the Camry SE Sport include Barcelona Red, Attitude Black, and for the first time on this latest generation of Camry, Blizzard Pearl. This limited production model will come with SoTex leather upholstery with cloth inserts in black or black/ash. Production of the Barcelona Red and Attitude Black models began August 6. The Pearl White will be available for only three months from the start of production on September 12 to November 12. All Camry sedans are manufactured at Toyota’s Georgetown, Kentucky assembly plant.
According to Gulf States Toyota there has been at least one other Camry limited edition within the past nine years. Since all 2012 models will be built at the Georgetown, Kentucky assembly plant through November it’s probably a safe assumption that these special editions will be built alongside early production 2013 Camrys.
National volume is expected to be 18,700 units for the four month build. The official number from the Gulf States Toyota region has an allocation of 2,600 models. Color selection is limited to Barcelona Red and Attitude Black models, at least until September when Blizzard Pearl becomes available exclusively on this model. The national mix for color selection is 5,000 for the pearl, with the remaining 13,700 split between red and black.
As a special uniqueness vehicles ordered through Gulf States Toyota will benefit from an exclusive optional LED lighting kit. The LED lighting kit was designed exclusively by Gulf States Toyota as an available accessory and is only offered on the Camry SE ‘special edition’. The availability for the LED lighting kit is dependent on dealership order preference. Vehicles can be had with or without the lighting kit.
Since its debut last year the 2012 Camry has been continually hammered in the press for its conservative, rather lackluster styling, but in its defense the Camry is one of the few mid-size sedan models still to offer anything close to a sports performance-oriented model. Ford does with its current generation Fusion Sport (2010-2012), Nissan did with its third generation Altima SE-R (2005-2006), and Mazda with its previous generation Mazda 6, as the Mazdaspeed 6 (2006-2008). Unless something changes in the meantime, the Camry SE, especially this limited-run edition, might be worthy of consideration – especially in its even more exclusive Blizzard Pearl.
