Today I interviewed Pastors Daniel and Jennifer Cruz of Faith World Chicago Church. The Pastors expressed their opposition to their beloved Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s comments on July 24, 2012 “Chick-Fil-A values are not Chicago Values”. The Pastors are 100% offended by the statement of Mayor Emanuel with whom they work closely on projects for youth and adult residents of the communities in which they have their church and school on the Northwest side of Chicago.
Like long time Chicagoan, Reverend Charles Lyons of Armitage Baptist Church and Billy Graham, Pastors Daniel and Jennifer Cruz believe marriage is between a man and a woman. Pastor Cruz says Mayor Emanuel spoke out of turn and too briskly. On July 24, 2012 Mayor Rahm Emanuel supported Alderman Joe Moreno’s decision to block Chick-Fil-A request for a permit to separate a parcel of land from another business operating near the build site. This location is to be Chick-Fil_A’s first stand alone restaurant in the Alderman’s ward, the Logan Square area, known for gang violence, rape, robbery and other offenses to the residents. The area is also known for its family run shops and corporate owned stores.
This is not the first time Alderman Moreno blocked a business from building in the first ward under the guise of ‘not a good fit’. The other business was Walmart. While the Alderman upholds the right of free speech, he clinches his veto power like a power hungry King void of compassion for all citizens and loyal only to the views of his pedestal. Alderman Joe Moreno showcases his ethics by displaying a letter returning a $1000 donation but has trouble working out employment for residents of Chicago verses personal views on marriage. Alderman Moreno’s right standing can not just be a one sided obstacle course. Clearly he has a heart to do the right thing but emotions cloud his judgment. With Chicago boasting over 400, 000 residents out of work as of May 2012, emotions of the unemployment may require a hearing aide. Another Chicagoan and Chick-Fil-A operator, Lauren Silitch attempted to speak with Mayor Emanuel on the issue and sources say the Mayor is softening.
The United States Constitution and the Illinois Constitution states that elected officials are in power by the people and must represent all people and not one person, body or group for any gain. Illinois has sent several governors to prison for disparage and things of that sort. Also, it is illegal to block or disparage a business for religious beliefs. It is because of the outright trampling of the constitution and comments from Mayor Emanuel, “Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values.” and Philadelphia Councilman James Kenney, who said “take a hike and take your intolerance with you.”, that a reminder for the much loved politicians of Chicago is listed below. A few sections and amendments of the Illinois and United States Constitution which politicians took an oath to uphold.
The United States Constitution Amendments I and IX:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”
The Illinois Constitution Section three and four:
“SECTION 3. RELIGIOUS FREEDOM
The free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession
and worship, without discrimination, shall forever be
guaranteed, and no person shall be denied any civil or
political right, privilege or capacity, on account of his
religious opinions; but the liberty of conscience hereby
secured shall not be construed to dispense with oaths or
affirmations, excuse acts of licentiousness, or justify
practices inconsistent with the peace or safety of the State.
No person shall be required to attend or support any ministry
or place of worship against his consent, nor shall any
preference be given by law to any religious denomination or
mode of worship.

A few of the long time Chicago residents and business owners who are Christians showed their support for Chick-Fil-A by not only showing up on Wednesday August 1, 2012 to make a purchase in support of Dan Cathy’s and Chick-Fil-A’s views on marriage between a man and a woman according to the Holy Bible, but, the Pastors Daniel and Jennifer Cruz returned to the Chick-Fil-A at 30 East Chicago Avenue, Friday August 3, 2012, in full wedding gown and tuxedo. The Pastors and other couples wore their original wedding gown garments from when they took their original vows in protest of the Gay/Lesbian ‘Kiss Fest’ rally scheduled at the Chick-Fil-A protesting Dan Cathy and the Chick-Fil-A views on traditional marriage.
Pastor Daniel Cruz said what the Alderman, Mayor Rahm Emanuel are doing is trampling on the rights of Chicago Residents, “government has no right to place their hands on private business and tell them hey, you do not have the right to open up in a city cause of their beliefs. This is not a communist state.”
When asked if his strong personal views will cause Mayor Emanuel to shut the doors on Faith World Chicago and all the good it does for the community, Pastor Cruz said with full assurance, ” No it does not effect the programs. The Mayor knows we will stand with him on the issues we agree. But when he makes statements directly opposed with our beliefs we will stand. To a certain degree he appreciates we can disagree but agree on things we have in common.”
Mrs. Illinois, Pastor Jennifer Cruz says, the organizers of the Mrs. Illinois Pageant believe in traditional marriage and upholds the views of Chick-Fil-A on traditional marriage. The Pastors plan to make the pilgrimage to Chick-Fil-A every year on July 24th, the anniversary of Mayor Emanuel’s statement “Chick-Fil-A values are not Chicago values.” which discriminates against traditional marriage which Pastors Daniel and Jennifer Cruz are fervently upholding. Pastor Cruz is concerned that politicians will remove the rights of Christians to speak freely and express views based on the Holy Bible for the sake of those opposed to traditional marriage between a man and a woman which gives a spouse legal possession of property, access to medical and parental rights. To remove the values of faith for money and power says it all.
