Children can get bored when traveling on the various road trips you have to take during the year. Here is an idea to put a stop to the boredom.
1) Get a very special “Traveling Bear”. His purpose is to travel with your children on any trips that the family may take.
2) Get him his own “travel bag”. In that bag you may have memory Bible verse cards; paper and pencils; crayons and coloring books, etc. Depending on the personality of your child will determine what you want to place in the bag. If you have more than one child, you might want to have a different travel bear for each child with their own travel bags. This would make each child feel special, as well as make their trip easier.
Make sure you add a camera. One that your children can use to take pictures of their trip. They will want to take pictures of things that are important to them, which may not be the same as what is important to you. A digital camera would probably be best as there is no cost for film and developing.
3) Get each child their own lunch box. Again this is only to be used for road trips, so it is a special lunch box, not the one they use for school.
The purpose for the special bear, the personal travel bags and lunch boxes are two fold:
a) to make the trip easier on each child, therefore making it easier on the parents. If they are busy with their travel bags and the travel bear, they are less likely to bicker or ask “When will we be there?” every ten minutes.
b) giving each child their own bear and travel bag makes them a part of the process, making them feel included and important. This is great for children’s self esteem.
