The Broward County, Fla. judge who will hear the domestic violence case against Chad Johnson is reportedly very tough and tolerates no nonsense in his courtroom.
Johnson, 34, was arrested on Aug. 11 and charged for allegedly head-butting his wife, VH1 “Basketball Wives’” star Evelyn Lozada.
Judge Ian Richards, 37, who hails from the streets of Liberty City—the same rough neighborhood where Johnson was raised, according to The Miami Herald—once jumped the bench to intervene when a man attacked his girlfriend in the middle of a domestic violence hearing.

Due to his arrest, Johnson lost a contract with the Miami Dolphins, was dropped from an endorsement deal for coconut water, his new reality show “Ev & Ocho” was taken off VH1’s schedule, and Lozada—his wife of only 41 days—has filed for divorce.
Johnson is slated to appear before Judge Richards for the first time on Sept. 13.
