People’s Resource Center (PRC) in Wheaton, Illinois has been in existence since 1975. It was founded to help the hungry and poverty stricken in and around the DuPage County area. The organization gives the public the opportunity to volunteer; working together with others in the community to bring those in need nutritious food and other basic fundamentals when they are facing difficult financial burdens.
Not only does PRC bring food, supplies and financial assistance, they also connect those visiting them with educational opportunities, tutoring, jobs, technology, art and a community of benefactors willing to help them get back on their feet and get ahead. PRC’s Mission Statement goes like this: People’s Resource Center exists to respond to basic human needs, promote dignity and justice, and create a future of hope and opportunity for the residents of DuPage County, Illinois through discovering and sharing personal and community resources. And that is just what they strive to do.
Many churches get involved with PRC; volunteers help at the food bank, collect much needed supplies for the Center, as well as teach children that not everyone is as well off as they are. This lesson learned at a young age can carry children through an entire lifetime. Children are able to participate with the collection of food; when they are old enough they can work at the Center helping to collect food stuff for those coming to shop.
Organizations such as People’s Resource Center receive their financial support from the public, businesses, churches, foundations and the like. ‘It takes a village’ as they say. Many times many different sources pool their resources with PRC in order for both to succeed. The teamwork helps to provide aid to numerous individuals thanks to the hard work and dedication of everyone working together.
The numerous people that are helped by People’s Resource Center are given an opportunity to stabilize and survive. Children who may not be able to eat otherwise may not be able to do so. Without the help of the many volunteers, this may not ever be possible. Many individuals are helped to even become citizens of the United States thanks to the help of PRC.
PRC is proud to help people achieve the American Dream and you can be, too. There are many ways in which you can get involved.
