The Commemorative Air Force-DFW Wing salutes veterans with their 6th annual “War Birds on Parade”. The event will be held on Saturday, September 1st from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lancaster Regional Airport.
There will be approximately 40 aircraft on display. Various bomber, fighter, cargo, trainer, and helicopter aircraft will grace the tarmac. Featured aircraft include Ol’ 927 (a B-24A bomber), MiG-21, MiG-23, Mil-2, and Mi-24 Hind gunship.
In addition, the CAF will host a car show on site. The awards include Best in Show Car and Truck, Club Participation, and Fritts Pick Awards. Registration will run from 9 a.m. -10:30 a.m. Voting will take place from 11 a.m. -1:30 p.m. with awards being given at 2 p.m.
Marine Sgt. R.V. Burgin will be in attendance as well. He is a World War II veteran, and was featured in the HBO series “Pacific”. Mr. Burgin will be selling and signing copies of his book, “Island of the Damned: A Marine War in the Pacific.”
A raffle will be held for two round trip tickets anywhere Southwest Airlines flies. Admission is a suggested donation of $10 per car, or $5 per person. Lancaster Regional Airport is located at 650 Ferris Rd., Lancaster, Texas.
