Blood sugar levels are important to monitor, especially for a person who has Type 1 or 2 diabetes or is borderline diabetic. Many people get confused on when to determine the correct time of the day for testing. A doctor’s recommendation should always be followed, but here are a few guidelines for testing your blood sugar level.
Blood sugar levels should be tested in the morning after having no food throughout the night, before and after meals, before and after exercise, and before bedtime. A perfect blood sugar level number is 100. Being in the range of 70 to 120 is not something to worry about. When first waking up, your blood sugar level should be between 80 and 120. This range is also the same for before mealtime testing. After mealtime, the range will usually be around 180 or less, and this number could stay there for two hours after eating. Before bedtime, the range will usually be between 100 to 140.
If you are testing your blood sugar regularly for a few days and notice your levels seem far out of these ranges, it is a good idea to make an appointment with your doctor. A blood sugar home testing kit can be purchased in drugstores. The OneTouch Ultra 2 Blood Glucose Meter is a good testing kit that can be purchased for around fifty dollars.
