It is no secret that an unfortunate incident took place at a small local awards show a few weeks back that mainly caused a split within the best local band in the SW Florida area, in this fan’s opinion, anyway. This was not a pretty event to have witnessed and the fall out was even worse as these particular band members are family to me.
The band I am speaking of is 10,000 Views and in one fell swoop, the band dismembered and I felt like the Beatles split up all over again, as I have known and/or watched these musicians play for at least 14-18 years combined. Things did not look great for this band on their upswing and working on a CD soon to be released; however, all things happen for a reason. This negative has turned out to be one of the best positives to hit the SW Florida music scene I can recall in my many years of following this community of amazing talent.
Former bass player, Patrick Naidl chose to exit the band and for many bands a major member leaving could be the ruin of a good groove working. This is where the experience and knowledge of the business within Timmy Johnston and Stet Howland came into play. They were able to not only line up a new bass player (in two days)–but an entirely new page of versatility to their already original, distinctive and signature sound with the addition of the multi-talented John Hyatt.
It is imperative to note that this addition came about within two days of Patrick’s exit and within nine days time–only five rehearsals together, the band formerly known as 10,000 Views re-emerged like a phoenix from the ashes, so to speak! Timmy and Stet could not ask for a better working and dedicated musician to join their team to continue upon their road to success.
Timmy Johnston and John Hyatt now switch up playing bass and guitar–and all members, including Stet, now take lead vocals on numerous tracks and covers. This band now has three members willing to work upon the same level to push things to the next level and it was rather evident to witness this past weekend across the board.
Johny Hyatt made his debut with 10,000 Views at the Beached Whale on Ft. Myers Beach, this past weekend and what a treat it was! With the addition of John comes new covers for this band–where all roles are shared and switched up; the original tunes that already existed sound better and tighter than before and the entire ‘vibe’ surrounding this band has gotten a positive ‘boost’ and a smoother, more even flow to things. There is an ease and a new attitude on stage that reveals through the performance.
All sets from this band are good; however, when Timmy and John switch instruments and Stet also shares lead vocals within a set that includes covers from: Joe Satriani, Blackfoot, Def Leppard and Led Zeppelin–there really should not be a rock fan left asking for anything more from a live performance. These covers are impeccable and drive the show to the next set, where Tool is also represented in grand fashion and yet a couple more original tunes tossed in.
If any fan leaves one of this band’s shows early due to slower or possibly more mellow covers, (*as bar owners can request if dinner is being served during these sets)…you truly are cheating yourself out of the best live performance you can find in the SW Florida area.
All though getting to this point may not have been the best experience for this band or those of us that love and support them through thick and thin; the positive result that this band has spun out of a rather negative incident stands to demand people’s respect and maybe some should take a lesson from this ‘re-birth’. There is no more room for doubt, hate or social media smearing that has taken place where we should all take personal check. I posted to defend my music family also.
10,000 Views never lost their slot as the crowned jewel of SW Florida live music and it will take quite a strong band to knock them out of that prestige, as there is no stopping this music machine that hits like the hurricane we were all just told to prepare for around here.
This new take on an already existing band’s live performance will blow your mind, leave you wanting more and will also leave you grasping for words to simply describe what you just witnessed with your own eyes and ears. It did that to me and I have seen these boys play over an 18 year period of time.
So, to any doubters out there and ‘stirrers’ of gossip or even haters, sorry, but this band is not going anywhere but up and unfortunately you may have cost yourself an opportunity to catch the best local show around. These tactics and words tossed publicly have only motivated this band to work harder and to reach for a level of performance beyond local bars.
This band raised the roof on the Beached Whale and came back stronger than ever not missing a beat–as only seasoned professionals know how to do! There is no success greater than forcing your doubters into silence.
Congratulations and hats off to Stet Howland, Timmy Johnston and John Hyatt for putting together the best performance possible within ten days and having things polished as fine as you all did. This fan and many that caught this weekend’s show definitely look forward to your next outing at the Beached Whale this coming Wednesday and Sunday evenings at the Beached Whale.
Thanks to 10,000 Views for allowing me and my photography team to capture this grand event, I look forward to many more to come–as you know I never miss a show!
This fan highly recommends that any local rock fan in SW Florida catch a 10,000 Views show, as the day approaches where these men will move onto greater things and a higher level of opportunity. These musicians and men deserve the highest of respect, so come out and show the love! You will not be disappointed in any sense what so ever.
It takes true professionals to show the rest how it is truly done, and these three talents did so and much more this past weekend. Get out to a 10,000 Views show and see for yourself why they are the best this area can offer to the world of music.
No one can deny that there are numerous reasons Stet Howland has been a recording and gold record holding musician; as well as reasons that he and Timmy Johnston gel so well together. Finally, there are reasons why a talent like John Hyatt simply fell into place to create the best musical experience locally. Think about that for a bit!
ROCK ON SW FLORIDA!!!!!
