Northeast Ohio is one of the premier regions in the United States for the growing of grapes and the making of wine. In fact, this region of Ohio has the distinction of being one of the very few areas in the country that can produce ice wine.
Clevelanders have the chance to celebrate Ohio wineries and the quality wines that they produce at the 18th annual Vintage Ohio Wine Festival being held on Friday, August 3 and Saturday, August 4 at Lake Metroparks Farmpark in Kirtland, Ohio, located approximately 25 miles east of downtown Cleveland.
Vintage Ohio Expected to attract more than 30,000 visitors, Vintage Ohio will play host to more than 20 wineries from around Ohio who will offer more than 150 vintages for sampling and purchase by glass or by bottle.
Area wineries that will be at this year’s Vintage Ohio include Breitenbach Wine Cellars, Candlelight Winery, Buckeye Winery, Debonne Vineyards, Deer’s Leap Winery, Ferrante Winery & Ristorante, Grand Cellars Winery & Restaurant, Grape and Granary, Hanover Winery, It’s Your Winery, Klingshire Winery, Maize Valley Winery, Marietta Wine Cellars, Old Firehouse Winery, Paper Moon Vineyards, St. Joseph Vineyard, Valley Vineyards, Vermilion Valley Vineyards, Vinoklet Winery, The Winery at Spring Hill and Wyandotte Winery.
Other activities at Vintage Ohio include live musical entertainment, cooking demonstrations and children’s entertainment. Regional artisans and crafters will be there to offer items for sale and visitors will be able to sample cuisine from regional restaurants and caterers.
Friday evening activities include a huge fireworks display (weather permitting).
New this year at Vintage Ohio will be the Meet the Winemaker Tent. Hosted by Marianne Frantz of the American Wine School, the Meet the Winemaker Tent will feature 10 of Ohio’s best winemakers who will be pouring one of their award-winning vintages. Samples of Adams’ Reserve cheddar cheese and Olive Tap olive oils and balsamic vinegars (for dipping) will be available.
Marianne Frantz will be presenting several wine and food pairing talks during Vintage Ohio.
Vintage Ohio guests will have access to all regular Farmpark activities including ice cream making, milking demonstrations, cheese making, border collie demonstrations, a hydroponics garden tour, animal encounters, Light Horse Brigade demonstrations, pony rides and a Scratch and Sniff garden tour. Lake Metroparks Farmpark will not be open to the general public during the Vintage Ohio Festival.
Hours for Vintage Ohio are 1 p.m. – 10 p.m. both Friday, August 3 and Saturday, August 4.
Advance tickets may be purchased until August 2. Advance Adult Taster tickets are $25 and $40 (including the Meet the Winemakers Tent). Adult Taster tickets at the gate are $30 or $45 (including the Meet the Winemakers Tent) Admission for designated drivers is $12. The Adult Taster admission includes a souvenir glass to use for your tastings. Designated drivers receive soft drinks. Admission for visitors 3-18 is $3. Children under 3 are free.
